ritu beri Fashion designer Ritu Beri could have modelled any of the haute couture garments she creates for the Dom Perignon-drinking jetset of the country. Or walked the ramp. If it is her svelte figure that attracts the eye before her soft, photogenic face, it is because Ritu fights hard to keep in shape. When you are a foodie given to eating seven chocobars at one go, and must appear on the covers of national glossies, then shape goes hand-in-hand with style.

You're notorious for your love for chocolate. Seven chocobars at one go! That's outrageous.
What's outrageous? I could make a meal out of chocolate. I've had a passion for it since I was a kid. Chocolate is a great pep-up for me.

A meal, that's exaggeration!
Really. I could put away a 300 gm bar of dark Godiva chocolate easily. And, given the choice, start and finish that meal with a chocolate milkshake and chocolate mousse. I'm nuts about chocolate.

And, what else?
Seafood. Grilled pomfret and trout, and prawns.

No other meats?
I'm vegetarian

But, what about the seafood?
In the US of A, fish is vegetarian. Chicken and meat are not.

You mean you watch your figure?
I love my food. I could out-eat any man if it is my kind of food. And yes, I watch my figure. I workout daily. One hour for a walk, tennis, 45 minutes in the gym doing aerobics and weights.

It's said you're a damn fine cook...
I enjoy cooking on special occasions, for family and friends. It's great therapy for me. I can make terrific cakes and desserts, toss up a salad, I can do Italian food with plenty of cheese and herbs. My food is exotic.

Exotic?
Yes, cooking is a creative thing. You can cook well if you're innovative and have taste. I never go by recipes, but put together a meal purely by my sense of taste.

You sound like you're designing an outfit!
Presentation makes a difference. The same dish can look and taste better if you present it creatively. Even Coke in the right glass makes a difference.

Eat out a lot?
Twice a week. Italian or Chinese.

What's top on your list, eating, designing or cooking?
Designing. But my passion for chocolate comes close.
