THE ART OF WHISKY DRINKING ?
Really, there is no art. It is all whims! However, in a conversation with Mr. Ian Logan, international brand ambassador for The Glenlivet, we discovered that many 'whisky myths' could be rebelled against! While it is considered by most purists that one should add three inch ice cubes to scotch so it doesn't dilute too quick, we learnt that this may not be necessary. In a whisky tasting session held at the JW Marriott, Mumbai, where Mr. Logan was kind enough to educate his guests about the whiskys manufactured in the glens of Scotland, we learnt that whisky might not even require ice. Yes, even in a warm country like India. For best results, one should have whisky with an equal amount of water. This helps activate the molecules in the drink. Hold your glass against light, add water to it and watch the molecules become potent, almost in a more refined, well mannered fizz. And yes, if tried with Glenlivet which is 18 years old, in its sweet symphony of oaky and fruity and an enticing bitter flavour, sigh, it's the most sinful symphony! While adding an equal amount of water helps release the best flavours, there are no hard and fast rules to drinking whisky. Have it just the way it pleases your palate!
