LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Body, mind and soul is for me, a heart
thing. And I have followed this balancing
mantra quite effortlessly all my life. I do
believe, most strongly, that if you live life
cleanly, life itself protects you.
The body and how we treat it, use
or abuse determines our well-being.
A sensible eating pattern of course helps,
but I am against hyper diets and the
paranoid approach which many people
adopt. Is there need to deny ourselves
ordinary eating pleasures? I don't think so.
The catch word should be moderation,
not guilt. Dwell on Oprah Winfrey's
quote, “Happiness is a baked potato and
someone to share it with.”
When it comes to agitation, it's the
mind which is usually the culprit. Control
it and you are fine. Easier said than done
I know, but you got to start somewhere. And a good beginning is to think well.
Of yourself, of those around you and of the world at large. Jealousy, envy, plotting
and planning, executing downfalls only lowers you in your own eyes and in turn,
troubles your soul and manifests in illness. You disrespect the divinity within you.
Yes, the conscience exits and each of us has it. It is not imagination when that
little voice speaks to you, reproaches you, chastises, censors and scolds you, or
sometimes guides you, pleads with you not go astray. It's our soul interacting with
our mind, in turn affecting our body and its language. Look around carefully, you
can spot those not in sync with all these elements. It's in the eyes, the talk, the walk.
Perhaps, the time has come for us to take a reality check. Do we want to head
downhill, unhealthy in body, mind and spirit, afraid to be ourselves, not allow
someone to peek into our soul? Or do we want to live an honest life, with integrity,
infused with spirituality, encapsulated in an healthy, attractive form?
Let us look the world in the eye, with pride and let it look back into ours, the
window of our souls. Let UpperCrust assist you. We've got a wide array of articles on
the subject. Ways to eat right, think right, feel right. There is the A to Z of foods,
details on Macrobiotics, minimum oil recipes by the Batras, the first family of
homeopaths. There are alternate destinations depending on what your objective.
Jindal Farms to overcome a health disorder or Angsana for the feel good experience,
Badri-Kedar in the Himalayas for salvation, or Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi in
Chiang Mai to surrender to the good life.
You can learn about organic farming through the most attractive farmer in India,
Rina Kamath, or re-learn to eat how our forefathers did, with a little bit of help from
Carlo Petrini the founder of the Slow Food movement. We've got inspiring people
like 86 year old yoga practitioner, solicitor M.Tijoriwala and the monk who sold his
Ferrari and who is so good for our soul – Robin Sharma.
We've even got a story on dogs, our saviours, who love us so completely. They say
there is no better psychiatrist in the world than a puppy licking your face and there
is my Inshy who has licked my tears dry...
Finally there is my friend of many years - Dev Saab, the embodiment of
everything that is good. A man with sterling qualities and an indefatigable spirit.
One who has followed the dictum of healthy mind in a healthy body since 60 years.
And look at him today – Mash'Allah!
